The History of Middle-earth é unha serie de 12 volumes de libros publicados entre 1983 e 1996, que abranguen diverso marerial e análises relacionados coa fición de J. R. R. Tolkien, compilados e editados polo seu fillo Christopher Tolkien. A serie amosa a evolución no tempo da concepción de Tolkien da Terra Media coma un mundo de ficción coa súa propia xente, linguas e historia, dende as súas primeiras nocións de mitoloxía ata o desenvolvemento de historias que logo darían forma ao Silmarillion e O Señor dos Aneis. No 2001 os 12 volumes publicáronse en tres volumes de edición deluxe limitada, seguidos dunha nova edición non deluxe no 2002.
