Martin Henry Balsam, nado en Nova York o 4 de novembro de 1919 e finado en Roma (Italia) o 13 de febreiro de 1996^[1] foi un actor estadounidense.

Traxectoria

Balsam comezou na interpretación no club de teatro do instituto e estudou arte dramática co director alemán Erwin Piscator antes de servir nas forzas aéreas durante a segunda guerra mundial.

O seu debut profesional foi en 1941 coa obra The Play's the Thing en Locust Valley e en 1948 foi seleccionado por Elia Kazan como membro do Actors Studio.^[2] Neses anos Balsam participou en varias series de televisión.

En 1960 interpretou un dos seus papeis máis célebres, o detective Arbogast no clásico de Alfred Hitchcock Psicose e en 1965 gañou o Oscar ao mellor actor secundario por A Thousand Clowns.

Igual que Gregory Peck e Robert Mitchum, Martin Balsam apareceu no filme Cape Fear (1962), e no seu remake, dirixido por Martin Scorsese.

Faleceu repentinamente dun infarto en 1996, aos 76 anos, mentres estaba de vacacións en Italia.
