O filme foi dirixido por Joachim Rønning e Espen Sandberg a partir dun guión de Jeff Nathanson, con Jerry Bruckheimer como produtor. Johnny Depp, Kevin McNally e Geoffrey Rush retoman os seus papeis como Jack Sparrow, Joshamee Gibbs e Hector Barbossa, uníndose ó elenco Javier Bardem, Brenton Thwaites e Kaya Scodelario.
