William Robert Ogilvie-Grant, nado o 25 de marzo de 1863 en Easter Elchies, Moray, Escocia, e finado o 26 de xullo de 1924 en Farley Cottage, Reading, Inglaterra, foi un ornitólogo escocés.

Primeiros anos[editar | editar a fonte]
William Robert Ogilvie-Grant foi o segundo fillo do capitán dos 42 Highlanders George Henry Essex Ogilvie-Grant, de Easter Elchies, Craigellachie, Escocia, que, á súa vez, fora o sexto fillo de Francis Ogilvy-Grant, sexto conde de Seafield.[1]
Fixo os seus primeiros estudos na Escola Preparatoria Cargilfield, e despois pasou ao Fettes College, en Edimburgo, onde estudou Zooloxía e Anatomía.
Labor científica[editar | editar a fonte]
En 1882 foi asistente do Museo de Historia Natural de Londres. Alí estudou ictioloxía baixo a supervisión de Albert Günther.
En 1885 foi nomeado temporalmente xefe da sección ornitolóxica durante a viaxe de Richard Bowdler Sharpe á India. Despois permaneceu nese departamento, no que chegou a ser conservador de aves entre 1909 e 1918.
Ogilvie-Grant sucedeu a Bowdler Sharpe como editor do Bulletin of the British Ornithologists' Club, posto que ocupou desde 1904 até 1914.
Ogilvie-Grant realizou moitas viaxes para recolectar espécimes, especialmente a Socotra, Madeira e Canarias.
Vida persoal[editar | editar a fonte]
Ogilvie-Grant casou con Maud Louisa Pechell, filla do almirante Mark Robert Pechell. A parella tivo un fillo e tres fillas. O seu fillo, Mark Ogilvie-Grant, foi diplomático e botánico. A súa filla máis vella, Eleanora (1892-1956), foi a avoa materna de Jane Beuttler, esposa delo político Alan Clark.[1][2]

Na honra de Ogilvie-Grant déuselle o nome científico Hemidactylus granti a unha especie de xecónido endémica de Socotra.[3]
