O xene PRDX2 codifica un membro da familia da peroxirredoxina de encimas antioxidantes, os cales reducen o peróxido de hidróxeno a alquil hidroperóxidos. A proteína codificada pode xogar un papel antioxidante protector nas células e pode contribuír á actividade antiviral das células T CD8+. Pode ter un efecto proliferativo e intervir no desenvolvemento e progresión do cancro. A súa estrutura cristalina resolveuse a 0,27 nm (= 2,7 ángstroms). As variantes de transcrición constitúen distintas isoformas que foron identificadas para este xene.[2]
