George Leonard Trager, nado en Newark (Nova Jersey) o 22 de marzo de 1906 e finado o 31 de agosto de 1992 en Pasadena (California), foi un lingüista americano, que chegou a ser presidente da Linguistic Society of America en 1960.

Traxectoria[editar | editar a fonte]

Durante os seus anos na Universidade Yale durante dúas décadas (1930-1950 aproximadamente) mantivo unha estreita colaboración con outros lingüistas de prestixio como Edward Sapir, Morris Swadesh, Benjamin Lee Whorf, Charles Hockett, e desde 1941, Leonard Bloomfield.

Desde 1937, colaborou con Benjamin Whorf en estudos históricos e comparados das linguas azteco-tanoanas, pero o traballo que tiñan planeado viuse interrompido pola morte de Whorf en 1941.

Escribiu as esntradas sobre lingua e lingüística para a 14ª edición da Encyclopædia Britannica. Como Sapir e Swadesh, foi consultante da International Auxiliary Language Association, que presentaron Interlingua en 1951.[1]
