Anna Wierzbicka, nada en 1938 en Polonia, é unha lingüista na Australian National University. Foi tamén docente da Universidade de Varsovia, onde se formou, e da Universidade Maria Curie-Skłodowska de Lublin, Polonia. En 1972 trasladouse a Australia desde Polonia.
É coñecida sobre todo polos seus traballos de semántica, pragmática e lingüística intercultural, en especial pola metalinguaxe semántica natural e o concepto de primitivo semántico. Trátase dun programa de investigación inspirado no alfabeto do pensamento humano de Leibniz, que Wierzbicka desenvolve sobre os traballos do tamén lingüista polaco Andrzej Bogusławski a finais da década de 1960.
