O Territorio Indio referiríase posteriormente a un territorio non organizado cuxas fronteiras foron feitas nun comezo pola Intercourse Act (Acta de Relacións) de 1834, e foi o herdeiro do Territorio de Missouri, trala proclamación do estado de Missouri. As fronteiras do Territorio foron reducíndose a medida que o Congreso foi aprobando varias "Actas Orgánicas" para crear novos territorios. O Oklahoma Enabling Act creou o estado de Oklahoma a partir do Territorio de Oklahoma e o Territorio Indio, acabando coa existencia deste último.
