Perry Morris Robinson, nado o 17 de setembro de 1938 en Nova York, é un compositor e clarinetista de jazz, fillo do tamén compositor Earl Robinson.[1]
Traxectoria[editar | editar a fonte]
Robinson pasou gran parte da súa infancia en Hollywood e en 1950 volveu a Nova York, alí estudou na New York Music and Arts High School (1952-1954) mais na Manhattan School of Music. Por unha gravación puido realizar un curso no verán de 1959 na Lenox School of Music[2], escola que durante a súa brev existencia tivo unha gran significación no ensino do jazz [3]. En 1961 nunha estadía en España coñeceu a Tete Montoliu e con el traballou varios meses. A súa primeira gravación foi, Funk Dumpling (con Kenny Barron, Henry Grimes, e Paul Motian) en 1962. Tocou tamén con Grimes en The Call en 1965. Entre 1963 e 1965 serviu no exército en Panamá alí seguiu a tocar nun trío. Desde 1973 traballou con Jeanne Lee e Gunter Hampel na Galaxie Dream Band. Participou no traballo de Dave Brubeck Two Generations of Brubeck e tocou con Burton Greene no grupo de música ;klezmer Klezmokum. Foi o clarinetista solista no LP de Archie Shepp "Mama Too Tight" en Impulse Records. Liderou os seus propios grupos en actuacións mais en gravacións, con álbums cos selos Chiaroscuro, WestWind, e Timescraper. Máis recentemente, colaborou con William Parker e Walter Perkins en Bob's Pink Cadillac e en varios discos co selo CIMP.
Entre 1975 e 1977, foi membro da banda Clarinet Contrast, cos clarinetistas alemáns Theo Jörgensmann e Bernd Konrad. Gravou con Lou Grassi como membro da súa PoBand desde finais da década de 1990, e con Lou Grassi, Wayne Lopes e Luke Faust en 'The Jug Jam', dedicada á improvisación con jug. Con Badal Roy e mais Ed Schuller formou un trío de jazz libre e música do mundo que gravou o CDRaga Roni . E con Dave Brubeck e Muruga Booker constituíu o trío MBR. O seu lanzamento máis recente foi OrthoFunkOlogy en 2008 coa banda Free Funk, na que tamén participaronMuruga Booker, Badal Roy, e Shakti Ma Booker. En 2002 publicou a súa autobiografía The Traveler, en coautoría con Florence F. Wetzel.
