Donald Eric Capps, nado en Omaha o 30 de xaneiro de 1939, é un pastor luterano e teólogo estadounidense, antigo profesor de teoloxía pastoral no Seminario Teolóxico de Princeton.

Traxectoria

Capps estudou na Yale Divinity School e na Universidade de Chicago, onde realizou o doutoramento en 1970 cunha tese onde analizaba psico-historicamente a personalidade do teólogo inglés John Henry Newman, e particularmente as súas loitas vocacionais. Deu clases na Universidade de Chicago (1969-1974) e Universidade de Carolina do Norte (1974-1976), Universidade Phillips (1976-1981) e desde 1981 no Seminario Teolóxico de Princeton ata o seu retiro en 2009 pasando a ser profesor emérito. Foi editor do Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion entre 1983 e 1988, e de 1990 a 1992 he foi presidente da Society for the Scientific Study of Religion. Desde 1972 é pastor da Igrexa Evanxélica Luterana en América.
