The Pretenders é unha banda inglesa de rock formada en marzo do ano 1978. A banda orixinal estaba formada polo fundador e principal compositor Chrissie Hynde (voces principais, guitarra rítmica), James Honeyman-Scott (guitarra solista, coros, teclados), Pete Farndon (baixo, coros), e Martin Chambers (batería, coros, percusión). Tras as mortes realacionadas coas drogas de Honeyman-Scott e Farndon en 1982-83, a banda experimentou moitos cambios na súa formación. Hynde é o único membro constante do banda.[1]
Entre os éxitos de The Pretenders están "Brass in Pocket" (1979), "Talk of the Town" (1980), "Message of Love" (1981), "Back on the Chain Gang" (1982), "Middle of the Road" (1983), "2000 Miles" (1983[2]), "Don't Get Me Wrong" (1986), "My Baby" (1986), e "I'll Stand by You" (1994). A banda foi incluída no Rock and Roll Hall of Fame no ano 2005.
