Os congo[1] (en lingua congo: Esikongo (singular: Mwisikngo, tamén Bakongo (singular: Mukongo)[2]) son un pobo bantú e un grupo étnico definido principalmente pola fala da lingua congo.[3] They have lived along the Atlantic coast of Central Africa, in a region that by the 15th century was a centralized and well organized Kongo kingdom, but is now a part of three countries.[4] Their highest concentrations are found south of Pointe-Noire in the Republic of Congo, west of Pool Malebo and Kwango River in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and north of Luanda, Angola.[3] They are the largest ethnic group in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and one of the major ethnic groups in the other two countries they are found in.[4] In 1975, the Kongo population was reported as 10,220,000.[5]
