For instance, researchers performing functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans systematically report changes in the activation of some brain regions as deficits in the autistic group — rather than evidence simply of their alternative, yet sometimes successful, brain organization".

Français : Imagerie IRMf montrant les différences d'activité du cortex cérébral lors d'une activité de coordination visualo-motrice chez des personnes autistes et appartenant à des groupes-témoin. Les zones activées apparaissent jaunes pour le groupe des autistes [bleu pour le groupe de contrôle et vert quand elle est la même pour les deux groupes.
