Supergrupo

Supergrupo é un termo que procede de finais dos anos 60, e describe os grupos musicais formados por membros que xa alcanzaran fama ou respecto noutras bandas ou como artistas individuais.

O termo é en ocasións utilizado por determinados xornalistas musicais para referirse a grupos que venderon gran cantidade de discos ou que foron cabezas de cartel en grandes concertos ou festivais de música, independentemente da sona individual dos seus membros. Porén o termo, correctamente utilizado, refírese á "arquitectura" da banda, non ao éxito que poida chegar a alcanzar.

Supergrupo tampouco engloba a bandas existentes cuxos membros adquiriron fama individual despois da súa fundación, como ocorreu con Genesis, Yes, Broken Social Scene e The Beatles, que retrospectivamente poden chegar a considerarse supergrupos. Tampouco se utiliza o termo para designar ás bandas que, mantendo o seu nome orixinal, recrutaron a un ou varios músicos famosos, como Van Halen despois de unirse Sammy Hagar e Gary Cherone, ou The Eagles, despois da entrada de Joe Walsh e Timothy B. Schmit.
