Sir Sidney Poitier KBE, nado o 20 de febreiro de 1927 en Miami, Florida, é un actor, director de cine, escritor e diplomático bahamés-estadounidense.

Traxectoria [editar]
Comezou a facerse coñecer nos seus traballos como protagonista en varios filmes onde desafiaba conscientemente os estereotipos raciais e daba unha nova credibilidade ós actores negros.
En 1963, Poitier acadou o premio Oscar ó mellor actor polo seu papel no filme Lilies of the Field, sendo ademais o primeiro afroamericano en facelo. A importancia deste fito consolidouno como actor de renome, e en 1967 chegou a facer o papel principal de tres filmes que conseguiron o récord de recadación dese ano: To Sir, with Love, In the Heat of the Night e ¿A que non sabes quen vén cear esta noite?.
Como director, Poitier levou a cabo varios filmes que acadaron popularidade como Uptown Saturday Night, Let's Do It Again (xunto co seu amigo Bill Cosby) e Stir Crazy con Richard Pryor e Gene Wilder.
No 2002, 38 anos despois de gañar, Poitier é homenaxeado pola Academia co Óscar Honorífico en recoñecemento "das súas notábeis contribucións como artista e como ser humano".
Dende o ano 1997 traballa como embaixador das Bahamas no Xapón.
