Rhodobacter é un xénero de bacterias da familia Rhodobacteraceae.^[3] Son fotosintéticas, pero o seu metabolismo é moi versátil. A especie máis famosa é Rhodobacter sphaeroides. Varias especies antes clasificadas no xénero Rhodobacter foron despois reclasificadas noutros xéneros como Rhodovulum, Haematobacter, Roseobacter e Gemmobacter.
