English: Beach east of lagoon antrance of Nikumaroro (formerly Gardner) Island, Phoenix Islands, Kiribati.
Original field notes: Vegetation here is almost exclusively native (indigenous - that is, found elsewhere, but also here naturally): pandanus or screwpine (long, leathery, spirally arranged leaves on far left), kou (yellow leaves), tree heliotrope (bending down under coconut palm). A good turtle beach. This is a wet island, the most luxuriant of all 9 Phoenix Islands. |
