Comenzou a actuar ós cinco anos nun anuncio da lotería do estado de Xeorxia xunto a Ray Charles. O seu primeiro papel importante foi nun episodio de ER, serie da NBC, deseguido participou en episodios CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Friends, The Practice, Spin City e Malcolm in the Middle. No ano 2001 protagonizou xunto a Sean Penn e Michelle Pfeiffer o filme I am Sam. Foi a protagonista da miniserie de ciencia ficción Taken (2002) producida por Steven Spielberg e participou tamén en War of the Worlds.
